Casinos III – more on casino token

There are certain kinds of chips or casino token that are designated for particular casino games. For example, $2.50 chips are meant to be played for blackjack games whereas $20 chips are commonly used in gambling games like Baccarat, Pai Gow tiles and Pai gow poker. However, in some cases $20 chips can also be played in games of Craps or Roulette.

Interestingly, color of chips can vary in denomination depending upon the casino and place where the games are being played. A case in point are the low valued yellow chips that are generally valued at $20 in Atlantic City and Illinois although the same colored chips have value of $5 in south Californian poker tables and $2 in Connecticut and Arizona. Another example can be the blue chips used generally for $10 denomination in Atlantic City, but in Las Vegas and California, blue or white chips have $1 value.

Casino token of high denomination is only found in casinos who allow high wagering limits. While $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000 chips are offered by casinos where high stake games are played, these chips are not available for the general people who play for lower bet sizes. While there can be no upper limit to how much value a casino token can stand for, the largest value that has till date been used was by a plaque for $10 million in a Las Vegas casino. For the gamblers who participate in large tournaments like the World Series of Poker where games are played for very high stakes and large cash prize, round chips with denomination from lowest value up to $25,000 are always used. However, in some televised poker games and other cash games bundled paper bills are used for high values.

Casino token usage in European casinos follow more or less similar pattern though some venues may use pink chips for €2 and blue chips for €10 whereas for €1,000 and higher value, plaques are commonly used.
